In partnership with the City of Phoenix, students attend a four-week program that is designed to combine business education with work experience. Students complete five college credits while gaining real life work experience, then compete in a business plan contest. The 2006 and 2007 winners of the business plan contest received a scholarship to GateWay Community College.
“This program has helped me a lot; not many kids have the opportunity to get college credits before they finish high school. The program showed me that people care about my education and gave me the opportunity to know I can do it, “said Shyonia DeGrade, program participant.
“It is important for our youth to develop their entrepreneurial skills and talents to prepare them to think and process how businesses compete in today’s global economy,” said Roberto Franco, of the city’s Community and Economic Development Department. “This course will teach our youth that planning, hard work and research can lead to a successful career.” For more information, contact Nance Harris at harris@gatewaycc.edu or (602) 286-8026. 2008 Flier. 2008 Application.
