The Student Assessment Center provides academic and vocational testing to help students accomplish their educational goals.

Testing Services

  • ASSET Course (Timed) Placement Testing
    Course placement testing is available for English, reading, and mathematics. New or continuing students, and students with no college level credit in these three subject areas can test on a walk-in basis. If you plan to apply for Financial Aid and have not earned a high school diploma or GED you must take all three tests in the same sitting. Use this Online Study Guide to prepare. Testing times are on a walk-in basis at the following times:
    • Monday-Thursday from 8am-5pm and Friday from 8am-3pm (Fall & Spring semesters).
    • Monday-Thursday from 8am-5pm and closed on Friday (Summer)
  • COMPASS (Computerized Adaptive Testing):
    Computerized testing in English, reading and mathematics is available for course placement. This option is untimed on a computer. Testing times are on a walk-in basis at the following times:
    • Monday, Wednesday & Friday from 8am-5pm (Fall & Spring semesters).
    • Monday-Thursday from 8am-5pm and closed on Friday (Summer)
  • English as a Second Language (ESL or CELSA) Testing:
    CELSA is a written test only, used for course placement into the English as a Second Language Program for both English and reading. This test takes 45 minutes to complete and consists of 75 multiple-choice questions. The test does not include a listening or spoken portion. The scores and recommended course placement are given to the student immediately upon test completion. Testing times are on a walk-in basis at the following times:
    • Monday-Thursday from 8am-6pm and Friday from 8am-4pm (Fall & Spring semesters).
    • Monday-Thursday from 8am-6pm and closed on Friday (Summer)
  • GED (General Education Diploma)
    For information on free GED classes, call (602) 254-0265 or (480) 517-8110 or visit GEDtest.org. The cost of this exam is $75.00. Testing times are:
    • Tuesday & Thursday from 10:30am-2:30pm 
  • Health Curriculum Courses (Competency Assessment)
  • Selected Instruments for Health Sciences
  • Instructor Exams
    Testing times are on a walk-in basis at the following times:
    • Monday-Thursday from 8am-5:30pm and Friday from 8am-3:30pm (Fall & Spring semesters).
    • Monday-Thursday from 8am-5:30pm and closed on Friday (Summer).
  • Nursing Program Entrance Exams (NET)
    The cost of this exam is $25.00. Testing times are:
    • Monday-Thursday from 8:15am-4pm and Friday from 8am-2pm.
  • HESI PN Exam
    The cost of this exam is $42.00. Testing times are:
    • Monday-Thursday from 8am-4pm and Friday from 8am-2pm
  • Make-Up Exams
    These are offered to students who need to make-up instructor's exams due to absence. Faculty members may complete an "Instruction for Exam Administration" form available in the Student Assessment Center, in their department office or by download.
  • Health Curriculum Core (HCC)
    Fees vary. Eligibility will be verified by A&R. Testing times are on a walk-in basis at the following times:
    • Monday-Thursday from 8am-5pm and Friday from 8am-3pm (Fall & Spring semesters).
    • Monday-Thursday from 8am-5pm and closed on Friday (Summer).

Proctoring or correspondence testing is available for non-GateWay students. The proctoring fee is $20.00.

Assessment Procedures

  • Referrals to the Assessment Center are made by a program advisor, counselor, or faculty member.
  • Complete and submit a Student Information Form prior to testing. Forms are available at Admissions and Records.
  • A current picture ID is required.
  • E-mail or call us at (602) 286-8160 for further information.
  • Submit the optional "Customer Satisfaction Evaluation" by the end of the semester.
