FAQ

What is ASSET?

ASSET is three 25 minute placement tests designed to identify your skill levels in English language usage, reading and mathematics.

ASSET scores are used by you and an advisor to decide which course to take.  All students taking their first college level English, reading or mathematics courses must complete ASSET before they can register.

Why is the ASSET test required?

We want you to be as successful as possible. Research shows that placement testing helps you to enter English, reading, or math courses at the proper starting point. The result is that you will have a better chance of completing your courses and earning good grades.

When can I take the ASSET test?

Assessment tests are scheduled at a variety of times.  Please check the schedule.  Summer hours differ.

How long does it take?

The following times include signing in, filling out general information questions, testing, and receiving results:

  • ASSET 3 battery tests = 2 hours
  • 2 ASSET tests = 1 ½ hours
  • 1 ASSET test = 1 hour

How much does it cost?

Assessment tests are provided at no charge to students.

Can I fail the ASSET tests?

NO!  Whatever scores you earn, an English, reading or mathematics course will be available for you.

Can I retest?

ASSET scores are good for two years at any MCCD college.  You are permitted one retest in each subject area per year.
