Testing 

  • ASSET Course (Timed) Placement Testing:
    Course placement testing is available for English, reading, and mathematics. New and/or continuing students, or students with no college level credit in these three subject areas can test on a walk-in basis. Test times are available here. If you plan on applying for Financial Aid and have not earned a high school diploma or GED you must take all three tests in the same sitting.
  • COMPASS (Computer Adaptive Course Placement Testing):
    Computerized testing in English, reading, and mathematics is available as an option for course placement. This choice of course placement is done untimed on a computer. Test times are available here.
  • English as a Second Language (ESL) Testing:
    CELSA is a paper and pencil test, and is used for course placement into the English as a Second Language Program for both English and reading. This test takes 45 minutes to complete and consists of 75 multiple-choice questions. The test is written only and does not include a listening or spoken portion. The scores and recommended course placement are given to the student immediately upon test completion. Test times are available here.

Make-Up Exams

Services are available for students who need to make-up instructor's exams due to absence. Faculty members complete an "Instruction for Exam Administration" form available in the Student Assessment Center, their department office or by download. Test times are available here.

Other Services

Testing for Health Curriculum Core (HCC), GateWay Community High School, Phoenix Sheet Metal, Phoenix Electrical and distance learning are also available. Proctoring or correspondence tests is available for non-GateWay Community College students. The proctoring fee is $20.00.
